You can open the pdf file without needing the program installed. You should always save your return both ways as the .tax2015 file and the pdf file.
If you have the .tax2012 file and can't get the program, you could try the TaxPrinter service (not connected with Turbo Tax) at http://www.taxprinter.com
They might be expensive and it is probably not safe to email tax returns back and forth Their Website says…….
We read most federal and state files (Windows and Macintosh) from years 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013... Known exceptions are TurboTax 1997 and TaxCut 2005 files which we can't read for technical reasons.

You can download a software purchase for up to three years from the date of purchase for any reason at any time. Sign onto your download account here - https://shop.turbotax.intuit.com/commerce/account/secure/login.jsp?pagecontext=download
If the software is unavailable to be downloaded due to the length of time since purchased, you can purchase the 2012 desktop software from an online retailer, such as Amazon.
TurboTax no longer supports tax year 2012. However, you may still be able to download any updates to the 2012 software once installed and the state software may also be available for install. But this is not guaranteed since the software is no longer supported.
If you created the 2012 tax return using the desktop editions then you will need the tax data file from the old computer to copy and install on the new computer. The 2012 tax data file has a file extension of .tax2012 and should be located in Documents and in the TurboTax folder.
