How to attached document to efile return using Turbo Tax Home & Business

I use Turbo Tax Home & Biz.  I have a need to attach a PDF file to my tax return.  How can I attach the PDF file when e-file my return ?  If cannot attach the PDF file, I will have to file by mail.

Thanks.

You cannot attach documents to TurboTax returns.  If you need to send something with your return, you will need to print and mail your return.

Will i be able to attach a PDF file to my 2022 corporate tax return? I need to attach a sec 351 attachment and that is not an option in the software currently. I will need to file my return on another platform if this will still not be available.

@barbaraHoward You do not "attach" 1099's to an e-file. You enter the information from the 1099's into the software.   If the IRS wants copies of any of your documents they will send you a letter requesting them.   What kind(s) of 1099's do you need to enter?  There are over a dozen different kinds.

Yes, you can attach PDF files at least for the state of Georgia.  Georgia requires PDF attachments of tax credit forms.  You can only use the tax credits if you file electronically AND attach the forms.  I have not file in any other states, but I would think other states will have the option for mandatory attachments.

Go to VIEW; select STEP-BY-STEP; then select STATE TAX; look for OTHER SITUATIONS, go to the PDF ATTACHMENTS option, and follow the steps...you will be asked to name the document and then to attach the PDF file.

Two things need to happen for this to be possible:

1. The taxing agency has to be able to accept and process PDF files, and

2. TurboTax has to have coding to enable the process.

While the Georgia state return does allow attaching PDF documents, this is what our Canadian friends call a "one off". That is, this is not normally a feature of TurboTax.

  • If you read my response that is exactly what I said....I responded specifically about Georgia as I have not filed returns in other states, but provided that the capability might be there for mandatory (state required) PDF attachments...
  • If you are a Intuit employee, you might want to share your knowledge about these "one off" exceptions with other support employees because, I called several times in prior years and I got zero help as they had no clue that GA accepted mandatory PDF attachments.

Maybe your response should include the actual list of states and documents allowed to be attached to e-file instead of generalizing and saying flat out that Turbo Tax does not allowed attachments.
