How to amend your tax return to claim the recovery rebate credit

In order to claim the RRC you need to do the following:

 

1- On the main screen select amend/change return.

2- Then on your left-hand side menu (computer) or top left-hand side (mobile device) to get the menu.

3- Click tax tools.

4- Then Tools.

5- Click on topic search.

6- Type stimulus 

7- Then the software will automatically take you to that section to include the RRC on your 1040X

But you should not need to amend for that.  The IRS should automatically adjust your return.  You only amend if your 1040 line 30 is blank and you didn't get either of the first 2 Stimulus payments or qualify for more.

Those steps above are for that specific situation WHEN THE LINE 30 ON ANY 1040 IS EMPTY and your tax return has been accepted. When that happens per IRS guidelines any taxpayer will need to amend
