To add assets or expenses for self-employment in TurboTax Online, follow the steps below:

  1. Click Wage And Income
  2. Click Edit next to Self-employment income and expenses
  3. Click Edit next to the business name
  4. Click Add expenses for this work
  5. Check off Assets to add assets or select any expense needed, and click continue
  6. Click Start next to Asset and complete the asset entry
  7. Click Start next to each expense and enter the expense information

Sounds like you need to restart TurboTax. Please log out of TurboTax, refresh your browser, and clear your cookies and cache. Then restart your browser and log into TurboTax again.

It would be helpful to have a TurboTax ".tax2022" file that is experiencing this issue.

You can send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information.  If you would like to do this, here are the instructions:

Go to the black panel on the left side of your program and select Tax Tools.

  1. Then select Tools below Tax Tools.
  2. A window will pop up which says Tools Center.
  3. On this screen, select Share my file with Agent.
  4. You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is.  Click okay through this screen and then you will get a Token number.
  5. Reply to this thread with your Token number. This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information.

We will then be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return and provide you with a resolution.

Hi, folks. Is using pay stubs for tracking expenses worth it? I've recently opened my small cafe, so I'd like to automate financial accounting without using Excel, lol. I hope it's possible.

Hey, everyone. When it comes to tracking expenses, it's always a good idea to put something in place to make sure everything is up to date and accurate. Pay stubs are great for that, and you can use them for any type of financial accounting. It's definitely worth considering if you're looking for an automated system to store your expenses. Checkstubs is a great option and can make it easier for you to keep track of everything. Plus, it's way easier than Excel. Hopefully, this info helps and you can find the best solution for your café. Good luck!

See this TurboTax support FAQ for entering the self-employment expenses - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/import-export-data-files/enter-self-employment-business-expenses-like-home/L1k6HJY4A_US_en_US?uid=m66xw93s

I think you may not be seeing the "Start" box next to the list of expenses. If not, it my be hidden to the right of your computer screen, in which case you may need to find a scroll bar at the bottom of your screen and use it to scroll right. Also, you may be able to make your screen display smaller. Also, you may need to clear the cache on your computer. You can "Google" how to do that using the name of your web browser.
