I paid them 217.00 for the service and they charged 3.95 service fee. So it was about 2% credit card fee.

....but the actual credit card tax payment service fee is not handled by TTX.

TTX may take the CCD info as an input into the software, and submit the CCD entries to the Feds or the States, but the Fed payment system, or the State payment system involved will do the actual debit and svc charge...and that charge can vary.  Thus you would have to check your own state's tax website to see what charges they may implement for CCd payments of taxes due.

Some States will take CCd info at time of e-filing...others will not.

For federal tax filing, selecting "Charge my credit card" on the "How Do You Want to Pay Your Federal Taxes?" screen says a "convenience fee" of "

2.49% of the total amount you owe

" will be charged.

So if you owe $2000 for example, you are charged $49.80, which seems like a lot for your own money.

Of interest: TurboTax encourages you to use the option by saying "Earn points, miles or money back depending on your credit card." Since

cash back from cash charges is usually from 1-3%

, you may actually be paying more than you get back...

I called my credit card and they said it will be up to the vendor how will they charge the charges.  I'm not sure how TT processes theirs but Payusatax.com will charge 1.85% convenience fee and the charge will be a regular purchase and not a cash advance. #12 of https://www.payusatax.com/IRS/Home/LoadStaticPage?pageName=FAQ#12
