How does Turbotax compute state est. tax payment deduction? Made Q4-17 payment in Dec for 5 total payments in 2017. Q4-16 pd in Jan 2017- appears this is not captured.

And the 4th quarter 2016 payment made in 2017 should have transferred from the prior year return if you used the same TT account ... if not you will need to enter it manually ... see that section in the same place as the other estimated payments ....

I did visit this section, and yes it was automatically populating from last year's return.  The amount showing for 2017 Estimated Tax Payments is for the 2017 Fed (4 pmts) & State (4 pmts).  It is not capturing the Q4-16 paid in 2017.  Maybe it's on the detailed calculation form but doesn't show here.  I guess once I'm ready to complete my return then I'll be able to see the detailed calculation and know whether there is a glitch.

If you used the superior downloaded version you could switch to the FORMS mode and look anytime ... but with the online program you are limited ...

You can peek at only  the Federal form 1040 and the summary of the state info by going here:

1) lower- Left side of the screen...click to the left side of the "Tax Tools" text selection.
2)  then select "Tools"
3) then select "View Tax Summary" from the pop-up
4) then back to the left-side and "Preview 1040"

Then hit the "Back" on the left side to get back to your tax entries.

To view your entire return using the online editions (including the state) before you file, you will need to pay for your online account.
To pay the TurboTax online account fees by credit card, without completing the 2017 return at this time, click on Tools  and then Print Center.  Then click on Print, save or preview this year's return.  On the next page, to pay by credit card, click Continue.  On the next screen it will ask if you want Audit Defense, if you do not want this option just click on the Continue button.  The next screen will ask for all your credit card information so you can pay for the account.

This was helpful- thank you!  It appears that the 2016 tax paid in 2017 may be captured in a background calculation, but I will go ahead and purchase so that I can review the forms in detail.

All payments made in 2017 will be reflected on the Sch A  IF  you enter them as 2017 payments ... the program defaults to the 1/16/18 date and you must enter the 2017 date you actually paid it ... review that entry screen again.
