How does TurboTax calculate Medical Expenses Itemized Deductions to include 1095-A premiums?

I responded to Turbo Tax Itemized Medical Expense prompts with a total of $6,746 out of pocket medical expenses.  I responded to Turbo Tax SSA-1099 prompts with total Part B and Part D premiums of $3,741.   I responded to the Turbo Tax 1095-A prompts for Monthly enrollment premiums with total of $11,867.  (The 1095-A premiums are for my wife who is too young for Medicare.  Turbo Tax reports we do not qualify for the for the ACA premium tax credit per se, apparently due to our income, but that does not mean it cannot be included in our Medical Expenses for itemized deductions).  How did Turbo Tax come up with total Medical Expenses of$19,392?

The allowable medical insurance premiums would be the amount you paid less 7.5% of your adjusted gross income. That may equate to the amount you list. You will find your adjusted gross income on line 11 of your form 1040 if you want to do the calculation. Also, any amounts listed in column C of your Form 1095-A would be subtracted from your premiums listed in column A to determine the actual amount that you pay.

To view your form 1040 and schedule 1 to 3:

  1. Choose Tax Tools from your left menu bar in TurboTax Online while working in your program
  2. Choose Tools
  3. Choose View Tax Summary
  4. See the Preview my 1040 option in the left menu bar and click on it
  5. Choose the Back option in the left menu bar when you are done
