How does a layoff affect my taxes?

I was laid off from my company in July. I’m still based in the state where I used to work (my primary address), but I’ve been doing some traveling and staying with family in a different state for periods of time (my secondary address...but most of my mail goes here and this is the address the USPS has). Will this affect the state I need to file my taxes in? If so, what do I need to do?

Hey btrubauer14, great question.

Your state, for tax purposes, still depends on which state you consider to be home. Even if you are currently living with other people in other states. Your tax home is your actual home, the state the you would be living in if you had a choice.
You stated that you are still based in the state where you used to work, so you would still use that state as your home residence for tax purposes.
Thanks,
Sean
