Working on my Louisiana State return. Louisiana allows you fill out an schedule E to deduct federal retirement from gross income (exemption 04E). Turbotax keeps removing the exemption saying it has already accounted for federal retirement pay (which it has not) and there is no schedule E. How do I notify Turbotax that they have a software error. It is is a $2500 difference in my state taxes.
I find Schedule E listed on the form Resident Schedules. The form reduces the Federal pension and taxable Social Security from the Federal adjusted gross income.
This screen states that TurboTax has excluded the retirement income and taxable Social Security.
Not saying the form does not exist. The software is bad. the 1099R from my pension does not transfer from my federal to my LA state return correctly. Turbotax says it has reduced my gross pay it has not done so and there is no schedule E. When I add it manually turbotax says I am duplicating the exemption and removes it.
If it is not showing in LA, the federal section was not filled out completely.
Please follow these steps:
LA will then handle the retirement correctly.
Step 7
Step 8
Re Louisiana - I also have retirement income from two sources and I am not sure that it is being handled correctly. There is no Schedule E that shows up in my list of forms. I went to the LA system and filled out their form to double check (pain when I had paid for TT do do this.) It seems that TT has the correct numbers but where is the Schedule E? Is this an attempt to prevent you from avoiding paying them to file online? In the past we have mailed the downloaded pdf to LA Revenue. But they will contest it in a minute (OK, LA several minutes) without proper documentation of deductions. CHECK YOUR FORMS BEFORE YOU FILE.
