You may have selected the pay-with-your-refund option (also known as Refund Processing) rather than choosing to pay your fees with a debit or credit card. The FAQ below can give you more information. https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/6424619

If you don’t want to worry about getting your wallet out, Refund Processing lets you pay by deducting the fee from your refund and then sending the balance to your account.

Please note that once your e-filed return is in pending or accepted status, it's too late to remove the Refund Processing Service.

Please see the instructions below for removing fees:

Which 39.99?
Deluxe is 39.99
State is also a separate 39.99 in all versions above the Free Edition
If you select to have the fees deducted from your refund there is an EXTRA 39.99 Refund Processing Service charge (44.99 for California)

So you could have 2 charges of 39.99 for 79.98
Or you could have 3 charges of 39.99 for 119.97 (124.99 Calif)

How to see your fees
