How do I review line 25 of form 1040 in the program?

also, how would I backtrack and try itemizing once I've already used the standard deduction?

Line 25 of Form 1040 is federal income tax withheld. The amount comes from Box 2 of your W-2 forms, Box 4 of your 1099-Rs and Box 4 of Form 1099-G. Occasionally you’ll find withholding on other forms, but it is not common.

If you check the federal withholding amounts on all your W-2s and 1099s, they should equal line 25.

TurboTax will give you the best deduction between itemizing and the standard deduction.

  • Click Deductions & Credits on TurboTax online.
  • Enter any additional tax breaks you have.
  • Click Wrap up tax breaks in the bottom right of your screen.
  • TurboTax will show you a screen comparing your standard and itemized deductions.

The withholding amounts of which I know are much greater than the program shows.
I never saw a screen allowing me to enter taxes withheld.
How do I input more withholding?

The best thing to do would be to go over your W-2 and/or 1099 input again to double check your withholding is correct.

To review your W-2 input, you can follow these steps in TurboTax:

  1. Open your tax return.
  2. Search for W-2 with the magnifying glass tool on the top of the page.
  3. Select the Jump to W-2 link at the top of the search results.
  4. Click Edit next to your W-2 and ensure it matches your form.

If you had withholding from a 1099 form, then please also review each 1099 form inputted. You can search for your 1099 using the magnifying glass tool at the top of the page.
