How do I request an extra copy of my 1099-G? I had a fraudulent Unemployment claim opened in my name and am unsure if the IRS expects me to claim the amount or not.

I have not received absolutely any unemployment in 2020. Because of the nature of how it was made fraudulently, I am unable to access any of the information related to my claim and have as of yet not received a 1099-G. I know he has changed my mailing address with the EDD to somewhere in Florida while the claim and myself are located in California.

If you have not reported the identity theft unemployment fraud to EDD in California, here is contact information for that agency to report the fraud Report Fraud.

Each state issues 1099-Gs for its residents. California 1099-G is available through this site:  California 1099-G Access. You will be able to see if a 1099-G was issued for you.

If one is issued for you with a fraudulent amount shown, the IRS requests that you obtain a corrected form with $0 reported. IRS and Unemployment Fraud  If an incorrect 1099-G is issued for you, and you don't obtain a corrected form, then the IRS will contact you about this in the future with their matching program.

you don't put amounts due to fraud by someone else on your tax return.
