How do I report my refund carried over from 2019 to 2020. 2020 Turbo Tax does not make reference to this. Thank you!

The 2019 refund which you applied to 2020 taxes will help reduce your 2020 taxes and has to be entered in TurboTax.

You can enter the amount applied to your 2020 tax by following these steps:

  • In TurboTax, open your tax return
  • Click on Federal in the left-hand column, then Deductions & Credits on top of the screen
  • Scroll down to All tax breaks, locate the section named Estimates and Other Taxes Paid and click Show more
  • Click on Start next to Income taxes Paid
  • On the next page, click Start next to 2019 refund applied to 2020 federal taxes

Hello:  The instructions given led me to the area in Turbo Tax that showed the amount of 2019 refund carried over to 2020, however, there was no indication this amount was included in final total refund just before filing my 2020 taxes.  *Additionally,  last year I made an advanced payment of $2,000 via EFTPS, of which Turbo Tax makes no reference to, or, made no instruction on how to proceed with regards to advanced payments made through EFPTS that I could see.  In essence, what I need is to be certain that:  A)  My carry over amount from 2019 taxes to 2020 was taken into account within the total refund due me for 2020, and B) How do I get back my over payment from EFTPS.  Thank you!

If you need to enter your estimated tax payments and confirm that the amount of refund from 2019 was applied to your payments for your 2020 tax return you can use the information below to add and/or review.

This entry includes federal, state, or local taxes, enter them in the Estimated and Other Income Taxes Paid section.

  1. With your return open, search for the term estimated tax payments > press enter.
  2. Select the Jump to link.
  3. Choose Start next to the type of estimated tax payment you'd like to enter.
  4. Enter the amount of estimated tax you paid at each of the quarterly due dates.
    • If you paid 2019 estimated taxes in January 2020, you'll enter just one amount for each state of locality.
  5. After entering your payments made through EFPTS scroll to 2019 Refund Applied to 2020 to enter the amount
  6. See image below

Lastly, if you want to review the total payments you can use the 'Preview My 1040' tool.
