What's the bug?   There are some they already know about and are working on.

Hi xmasbaby0,

I'm trying to report a bug also. Please see my question "Can IRS Form 1040SR Line 5b ever be greater than Line 5a?"

Three people have responded differently and I have provided all the details of what the software is allowing that I think is incorrect.

I would appreciate it if the Turbo Tax engineers and tax specialists look at this to see if it is a valid bug.

I will be filing an Amended return in February to correct the error because TT allowed me to submit the incorrect return and that return has already been accepted by the IRS.

Turbotax will not allow me to proceed to take an energy credit unless I say it is for my main home, but the energy credit does not required that it be for my main home (as Turbotax info itself says)

As of the last TurboTax update, most of the known issues with Form 5695 have been resolved.

There is still a calculation issue affecting only joint ownership of the home and claiming one specific credit that is scheduled to be corrected with the next update around March 8th.  If this applies to you, see this link and sign up for updates:  Why is TurboTax limiting my Home Energy Credit when I have a non-spouse occupant?

If you are still experiencing an issue, please respond with details so that someone may help you get it resolved.

I need to amend my 2023 return.  I corrected the error, and then in forms mode opened Form 1040-X.  The form showed my adjustments correctly, except that the 1040-X also gave me a $500 nonrefundable tax credit on line 7 that wasn't on the original return.  I have one dependent in "other" category, but that was processed on the original return.  Right clicking on the $500 cell brings up picks, but clicking on them doesn't do anything, so I can't see the data source.  Any help would be appreciated.

Is the amount on line 7 in column B?  If so, then the tax return is picking it up as if it is a change from your return as originally filed.  However, if the amounts are in columns A and C, then your amended return is not making a change from your return as originally filed.
