How do I report 1099-NEC income earned by my spouse while filing married jointly

Hi there,

How do I report 1099-NEC income for my spouse in turbotax ( I have home & business edition) when filing married jointly? Also, what expenses can be claimed to reduce taxable amount?

Thanks,

Navneet

To report your wife's 1099-NEC on your joint return:

  1.  Log in to your account.
  2. Select the Business Tab then Business Income and Expenses.
  3. Select I'll choose what I work on
  4. Select Start next to Business Income and Expenses.
  5. You'll be asked some general questions about your business. After you answer them, you’ll be taken to enter your wife's Income and  Expenses.

To be deductible, a business expense must be both ordinary and necessary.

An ordinary expense is one that is common and accepted in your industry. A necessary expense is one that is helpful and appropriate for your trade or business. An expense does not have to be indispensable to be considered necessary.

Yes, it helped. I want to review my return with an expert. How can I connect with expert?

Sorry the expert review and Live feature is only available in the Online versions not in the Desktop program.
