How do I remove some states from updating? I only need one state and several states keep updating every time I start TurboTax.

There are several states that are being updated (some of which I had used in the past).  When I looked at my Updater Preferences, there wasn't a choice to remove a state.

As long as the states are installed, they will ALL update.

An "unofficial" way of deleting a state from your TurboTax program is to delete the form folder for that state.  To do this:

  1. In Windows Explorer go to:  C:\Program Files (x86)\TurboTax\Premier 2018\Forms
  2. Find the folder for your state.  For example, nci_18 is for North Caroline; vai_18 is for Virginia, etc.
  3. Right-click on the folder and select Delete.

[You can delete a state from just your return by click File > Remove State Return.]

I had to use the unofficial method since I didn't install these other states this year and had no return to delete.  These states were installed several years ago.
