To enter last year's refund that was applied to 2024, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Open your return.
  2. Click Federal
  3. Click Deductions & Credits.
  4. Scroll down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid.
  5. Click Start next to Income Taxes Paid.
  6. Click on 2023 Refund Applied to 2024.
  7. Enter your information.

Thanks for your reply.

My screen says "don't enter any 2023 overpayment applied to this year's return. It only gives a choice to choose to enter 'Additional payments with a date paid'

Any further help you can suggest?

If you used TurboTax last year and indicated that you wanted to apply your 2023 return to your 2024 tax, the amount will already be filled in for you, and you won't need to enter it.

However, make sure you're in the right place (screenshot).

I did use turbo tax last year, but all my files were lost with a computer problem. Now using a new computer.

Click Start or Update at the links I posted in the screenshots (top one is TurboTax Online, bottom is TurboTax Desktop).

You'll be able to enter the amount applied from your 2023 refund.

Thanks to several responders who tried to help me. I have decided to go with Turbo tax desktop which I have used for many years.
