How do I put a number into 24H on Schedule 1 (1040)?

How do I put a number for 24H, "Attorney fees and court costs for actions involving certain unlawful discrimination claims"? When I put in the 1099-MISC, it never asked if I had any legal fees related to it, and there was no option to include in the income. When I put in deductions, the legal fee option says that it only MAY adjust for state taxes, but that is incorrect. I need to put it into the 1040 line 24 part "h".

To claim these fees in TurboTax, you can make a negative adjustment on Schedule 1.

  • Go to Wages & Income
  • Less Common Income
  • Select Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C
  • Select Other Reportable Income
  • Any Other Taxable Income? Select, yes
  • On the Other Taxable Income page: enter description: “Deductible Attorney Fees
Amount: enter in the adjustment amount as a negative number.

This adjustment will appear on Schedule 1 Line 8z (reducing Total Income) and is included on the amount on Form 1040 Line 9.

While this entry will report the adjustment on Schedule 1 Line 8z instead of Line 14h, the TurboTax treatment has been approved by the IRS.
