When you use desktop software, there is an additional fee to e-file a state return. You can avoid that fee if you print, sign and mail the state return. The state e-file fee is $20 and increases to $25 in March.

In your online account, clear and start over. Login again and get to the screen that shows only online options. Under those in very tiny print there is a line that says other products. Click on that and pick desktop.
You can purchase a desktop version at an authorized retailer store. I got my desktop version at Target. Then, using the physical software package you purchased, you can either use the enclosed disc in the package (if your desktop computer has a disc drive), or use the instructions provided to get a desktop version downloaded on to your personal computer.
Once you have the desktop version, there is an option once you start your return to retrieve your historical information from an online version if that's something you've used in the past.
