Enter your 1099-DIV you have received using the financial institution as the payer of the dividends. The IRS would be looking for this on your return and it can easily be entered manually. Use the steps below to enter your dividends in TurboTax Desktop Premier.

  1. Open your TurboTax return > Search (upper right) > type 1099div > Click the Jump to... link
  2. Add Investment or Edit your dividends > Select Enter a different way > Select  Dividends > Select Type it myself
  3. Continue to enter your 1099-DIV and finish this section.

For additional information about dividends you can review the information in this link.

For Desktop.....when you click on either Interest, Dividends or Investments from the main first income list you get ALL your 1099 forms listed mixed together.   You need to go to the bottom and click on +Add Investments

I don't like the new way at all.  Too many clicks and sreens to click on and go through.   Go to the bottom and +Add Investments, then import or skip import, THEN....should be a screen with 5 boxes, pick Interest, Dividends, Stocks Bonds Mutual Funds, Cryptocurrency, or Other
