MILITARY DISCOUNT

https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/military-edition.jsp

(There are no military discounts on “Live” versions, the CD/download or on add-on features)

In the My Info section of the program indicate that you are active military.  You must enter a Military W-2 in the Wages & Income section and after completing the W-2 on the screen labeled Let's check for uncommon situations you will need to check the box Active military duty

When you are at the end of preparing your return you should not be charged,

In the My Info section when entering your personal information there is a screen Let's check for some other situations you have to check the box I was a member or former member of the U.S Armed Forces (active, reserve, or National Guard)

Then you select your particular status, then your pay grade and select Enlisted.

When you complete the tax return using the above information you will not be charged for either the federal or state tax returns. (Assuming you have indicated you are enlisted personnel)

The My Info is the answer that worked for me.  The Turbotax FAQ is incomplete --simply entering a DFAS w2 and checking the box in that section will not get you the free offer.  You have to go find the checkbox back in the My Info section to get the discount.

This TurboTax website states:

Offer valid for active duty and reservists of an enlisted rank (E-1 through E-9) with a W2 from DFAS.

The questions in My Info allow the customer to declare their pay grade and that they are enlisted.
