I had a direct sales job briefly at the beginning of 2019, not at all in 2020.
Naturally I didn't put anything for this job in this year's taxes and didn't see it listed anywhere either.
Then I click review thinking I'm done and it errors asking for information for this job I no longer have. Insists I must fill out a 1099 NEC and has no option to delete or remove the form.
Help!?!
I will suggest you to remove the form from the program. Here are the steps:
In TurboTax online version:
1. Sign into your account, select Pick up where you left off
2. Select Tax Tools, click on the drop down arrow
3. Select Tools
4. Under Other helpful links, choose Delete a form
5. Select Delete next to Form 1099-NEC and Continue with My Return
One of the most common reasons you’d receive Form 1099-NEC (Form 1099-MISC in prior years) is if you're self-employed or did work as an independent contractor during the previous year. The IRS refers to this as “non employee compensation.”
Does a 1099 have to be entered the following year if I no longer did sales direct job.
No, it does not have to be entered the following year if you don't have a 1099-NEC. Delete the form that is not needed:
