MY MOM QUALIFIED FOR FREE E-FILE WITH INDIANA. BUT NOW THIS YEAR I CANNOT DO JUST THE STATE THROUGH THE FREE E-FILE THIS IS A PROBLEM BECAUSE HER FEDERAL WERE FILED THROUGH MY PROGRAM. I NEED PAID FOR THE STATE DOWNLOAND - NOW I HAVE TO PAY ANOTHER 24.99 TO FILE. NO, I NEED EITHER A COUPON CODE OR SOMETHING TOFILE FOR FREE SINCE YOU WON'T ALLOW ME TO FILE STATE UNDER THE FREE E FILE
Please stop using all caps. It makes your question hard to read and seems like you are shouting at us.
Your question is very confusing. Not sure what your mother's return has to do with any of this. But if you used the desktop software ("I filed my state through a download program") then there is a fee to e-file your state return--and that fee is $24.99. You can avoid that state e-file fee if you print and mail your state return instead of e-filing it.
I was shouting. It is very frustrating when you've used a program for almost 20 years and this year they change it so that I cannot help her file her state for free when her AGI qualifies her for it. All this because you cannot file the state without the federal. I already helped her file her federal and we've always used my download and went to the free filing for the state. Its absurd that I cannot get a phone number to call.
Sorry--but you want something the software does not give you and never has. When you use desktop software, there has always been a fee to e-file a state return. You can prepare the state return using your software but in order to file it for free you need to print it, have Mom sign it, and mail it.
