How do I file for an extension for federal taxes?

To file federal extension:

1. Sign in to TurboTax.
2. Select File an extension in the left menu. If you don't see File an extension, open a section of your return, search for extend and select Jump to extend.
3. Follow the instruction to e-file your extension. 

Keep in mind that an extension of time to file your return does not grant you any extension of time to pay your taxes. Filing this form gives you until October 15 to file a return. You must estimate your tax liability on this form and pay any amount due.
