To import a K-1 downloaded to a ".txt" file, go to:

  • *Federal Taxes Tab*
  • *Wages and Income*
  • *I'll choose what I work on*
  • Import Summary - click View
  • Click "+ Add Other Documents"
  • Select "Import from Tax Exchange Format (TXF) file" - Click continue
  • Select "Income" - Click Continue
  • Use Browse Files to navigate to the folder in which you've saved the downloaded .txf file.

I followed the instructions to download my K1 using a txt file that I have from the K1 company.  I have it in my download input summary in TurboTax.  However, when I start to do my  K1 there is no request to get the downloaded file.  I am using TurboTax Deluxe.  I hope the answer is Not to upgrade to the next level of Turbotax.

Thanks for your guidance.

If you're using the TurboTax Online version, neither TurboTax Online nor TurboTax Business support imports from the .txf file.

You can import .txf files created in other financial software (containing stock trades, for example) and import that into TurboTax.

  1. Open (continue) your return in TurboTax.
  2. From the TurboTax File menu in the upper-left corner, select Import followed by From Accounting Software (Windows) or From TXF Files (Mac).
  3. Follow the instructions.
