How do I delete Scholarship/Grants (for all Schools)

I accidently added the amount in Scholarship/Grants (for all Schools) box but now I cannot delete it. I was planning to add 1098-T form but added the amount under Scholarship/Grants (for all Schools) . I cannot edit the amount either it doesn't give me an option. Any idea how do I make it zero or delete as it is considering as an income?

You can edit or you can delete. To edit:

  1. Click Federal in left pane
  2. Click Deductions & Credits tab at top
  3. Scroll down to Education
  4. Select Revisit to the right of Expenses and Scholarships (Form 1098-T)
  5. On the Your Education Expenses Summary page, select Edit
  6. On the Here’s X’s Education Summary page, select Edit
  7. continue to
  8. Did you pay for books or materials to attend school? Yes
  9. Continue
  10. Scholarships and Financial Aid, continue
  11. Did you get a scholarship?  no

To delete, choose your method of deletion:

  • Online: A simple way to delete forms in TurboTax online is to use the Tax Tools menu option, which is on your left menu bar when you are working in your program. Then, choose Tools and then Delete a form.
  •  Desktop: If you are working in the download TurboTax program, use the Forms Mode on your menu bar to bring up the form you want to delete, then choose the Delete Form option at the bottom of the form.

I followed your instructions, but the amount is still there.  What initially I had done, I entered the amount in Scholarship/Grant (for all schools)) first without using 1098T details. It gave me a message that it is considered as an income.

Later I entered 1098T details, in 1098T there is an amount under Scholarship/Grant box 5, so I entered that amount.

My question is, is the amount of 1098T under Scholarship/Grant box5 supposed to show in Scholarship/Grant (for all schools) also?

Each 1098-T should stand alone showing only what is on that form. The totals will be added together for calculating credit. You only need $4k in money paid out of pocket to optimize your education benefits. If the scholarships leave $4k or more to go towards tuition, the worksheets won't matter.  I recommend you look at another of my answers for help to maximize your credit.

The purpose of entering the information is to get an education credit. If you don't qualify, you would not need to enter anything. The program has worksheets that run and calculate allowed amounts. The actual answer goes on form 8863 and is used to compute education credit for your return. See About Form 8863, Education Credits for the form and instructions.

You will need to preview your form 8863 before filing to ensure it is correct and you are receiving the proper credit.
