How do I close my LLC with the IRS?

I closed my single member LLC with the Georgia Secretary of State office in April, 2024. I would like to close this business with the IRS in order to properly inform them of the dissolution and to avoid having to pay a quarterly estimated business income tax. Will I be required to file a Form 966 or other forms? If so, which ones? Thank you.

To clarify, if in fact I do not file any forms or otherwise communicate to the IRS that my business has been dissolved as of 5/1/24, how then can I be assured that the IRS will not assess me the usual estimated business income tax that I have been paying?

Estimates are optional to pay.  They don't get sent to the IRS with your return so the IRS won't be expecting them.  They may keep sending you the blank 1040ES forms but you can shred them.
