How do I change the "Recipient's address" on my 1099-INT form?

The form is currently showing the incorrect state and is only allowing me to revise the ZIP code.

To edit the recipient's address you entered for a 1099-INT form, you can follow these steps in TurboTax:

  1. Open your tax return in TurboTax.
  2. Search for 1099-INT with the magnifying glass tool on the top of the page.
  3. Select the Jump to 1099-INT in the search results.
  4. Click Edit next to the 1099-INT that you need to edit.
  5. Change the address and click continue.

The state of the bank was incorrectly inputted from Turbotax on my 1099-INT forms. I try to edit, but it's not allowing me to edit. Based on the original poster's entry, this appears to be a glitch, as I get the same message of "invalid zip code," and that is because Turbo tax put a totally different state on the form for my bank than is actually true.

Is there anyway to correct the state of the bank on the 1099-INT form that Turbotax has scanned?

You won't be able to edit the 1099-INT from the ''review'' screen, but you can go into the actual form and change the state code there.

To edit the state abbreviation for a 1099-INT form, you can follow these steps in TurboTax:

  1. Open your tax return in TurboTax.
  2. Search for 1099-INT with the magnifying glass tool on the top of the page.
  3. Select the Jump to 1099-INT in the search results.
  4. Click Edit next to the 1099-INT that you need to edit.
  5. Change the two-letter state code and click continue.

@bluepicayune   You can also delete the 1099-INT and re-enter it manually if you continue to have difficulty with editing.   There will be a trash can icon or a delete button next to the problematic form.

TurboTax follows the IRS guidelines for acceptable ZIP codes. If the 2-letter state abbreviation does not match the ZIP code, you will receive an error when attempting to e-file.  99% of the time it is because the state abbreviation is wrong, so double-check that first.   Also, you may need to go back to the actual form to change the state code if the error pops up in the ''review'' process.   You can usually edit the zip code during the review, but not the state code.

Should you receive this error:

  1. Double-check that you entered the correct 2-letter state code. (click the link to verify)
  2. Make sure you've entered the ZIP code in either 5-digit or 9-digit format, for example, 12345 or 12345-6789.
  3. Look up the correct ZIP code for the street address in question.   Use the correct zip code if different.

I am having the same problem. I am on the online version on the Mac. I am not seeing an option to enter or change the 2 letter state code. I've tried deleting and manually entering and editing from the existing. Nothing is working.

You can't change the state code from the review section.   Leave the review and click on Federal on the left side menu.   Then search for 1099-INT (or whatever form has the zip code error) and edit the form from the TurboTax interview.

If you have edited the form and the correct 2 state code is entered for the zip code you have entered, then you have another error that needs to be corrected.

@bgott

Make sure the city and state match up to the zip code.  This error happens when the state code doesn't match what is on file with the IRS.  TurboTax follows the IRS for acceptable zip codes.  If the state code does not match the correct state, you will get an e-filing error.

I am having the same issue. Editing my 1099-INT through the Federal section does not appear to help, as I am not presented with an option to edit my address there.

Please clarify. Did you receive a Form 1099-INT or did you issue one?

Some of the previous posts in this thread were discussing how to edit the state code on Form 1099-INT when reporting state withholding on interest received. Going back to the Income section and editing Form 1099-INT allows the user to change the state code which is shown on the form.

I'm having the same issue. I entered a 1099-INT form by taking a photo of it with my phone. TurboTax got all the amounts right, but later when I tried to e-file, it said that there was "1 detail for you to review". I clicked on the review button and it took me to the "Additional Payer and Recipient Information" part of the form and claimed that "Recipient ZIP Code is invalid for Electronic Filing".

It had already allowed me to type my address, city, and zip, but it filled in "NY" for the state (my state is "CO") and won't let me change it. The zip code I entered is "80301" which is Colorado, not New York.

I deleted this 1099-INT form and started over, and the second time it failed again, but entered "ID" for the state. I assume it's trying to do a lookup based on the zip code, and it's getting it wrong. It won't let me edit the state field directly.

I have already scheduled the electronic filing and it's going to be a real pain to undo all this and file by mail, which seems like my only option right now.

Can you please tell me what I should do?

Did you try deleting it and enter it again MANUALLY?  Manually usually fixes most problems.  It just did on another interest post.

This doesn't work since they don't show the address. For some reason, it picked up OR instead of CA, and the zip code doesn't match.

Why can't you access the address for a 1098?

This solution doesn't work--clicking on the form doesn't take me to the address.

It's best to delete the imported form then manually re-enter to update your address as suggested by VolvoGirl above. @anniegroven23

I did this twice and still didn't work. The application is not parsing correctly. It converts CA to OR.

Maybe the zip code is wrong?

It parses the zip code (CA zip) correctly. The error occurs when the zip does not match the OR address and errors out when processing. I had to put in an OR zip code to get to work. It would be better if you could access the state and change the value.

even when I click edit, it only allows me to change certain info. Im stuck in a loop trying to change the address on the document but it enters it automatically without me entering any of that info previously or using uploading a document

when entering it manually there is 0 option to put in the address myself and somehow it still puts in the incorrect address. I have no documents related to this 1099 uploaded.
