How do I change a ready-to-print return?

Ok so I’m not super familiar with the online software, as I always used the desktop version and just started using the online version this year. My return has to be filed by mail. The status of the return is currently ‘printed’. The return has not been mailed yet.

So when I was reviewing the tax forms after completing the entire questionnaire, i thought it was the review window, but apparently the tax was ‘filed’, and the status of the return changed to ‘printed’. I noticed an error after the fact, and TurboTax didn’t allow me to change it. So I clicked on the amend option, starting changing things, thinking it would give me updated forms. No it didn’t. So now my amendment says ‘ready to mail’ but the downloaded files still had the old forms.

how can I make changes at this point? Was any of the submissions actually filed? What can I do? I know I probably sound stupid, and I do feel pretty stupid…

TIA for your help…

You do not need to amend the original return if you have not mailed it.  You will need to clear and delete the amended return.  Follow these steps provided by TurboTax to cancel or undo an amended return:

If you started amending your federal return and would like to cancel the amendment, follow this process:

  1. Under Do you need to change anything else? Select Never mind, I don't need to amend.
  2. Alternatively, you can also exit the screen without saving the amendment.

Once you have undone the amended return, you can open the original backup and make the necessary changes.  To open the return up, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to TurboTax
  2. Click State
  3. Click Add a State (you won't add a state; this opens the return for edits)
  4. Go back and make the necessary changes
