How do I calculate "Total of all your payments and withholding" and "Total Refund Received in 2023" using IRS transcripts?

I looked at this question and went to the IRS website linked in the response  to get free federal tax return transcripts but I'm still confused on how to get the right numbers from there. Additionally, If I got married this year and am filing jointly for the first time, do I add both of ours together? How do I calculate "Total of all your payments and withholding" and "Total Refund Received in 2023" for TurboTax using these IRS transcripts?

The transcripts are annoying because they aren't in the same order as your tax return.  So you will need to look for the proper wording.

Total income tax withheld will be included in the line marked "Total Payments".  But you'll have to deduct any earned income credit, additional child tax credit, American Opportunity Credit and any other refundable credits.  Annoying, right?

The refund is easier.  "Amount overpaid".

Yes, you should total both you and your new spouse (Congratulations!) together to get the totals to enter for this year.

Good luck!
