How do I avoid paying penalties and interest for a mistake that the IRS made? They incorrectly assigned my last 2024 estimated tax payment to 2025.

When did you pay the last estimate?  It was due by Jan 15.   Did you use the wrong  year 1040ES slip or pay online?  I would enter the estimate and if Turbo Tax gives you a penalty on 1040 line 38 you can fill out form 2210 to reduce or eliminate it.   Then when the IRS asks about it you can explain it.  Did you already file and get a letter from the IRS?  It should have a special phone number to call them.  I had a problem with the IRS applying my refund from 2023 wrong and when I looked up my 2024 refund it showed a phone number to call.  I called it and a lady answered right away and we got it straightened out.

Fill out the 2210 under
