How do I answer whether I supported myself in 2017 if I was supported by family until September but supported myself from then onward?

I don't know if the answer is no, since I was only paying for more than half of my living expenses for less than half of the year, or yes, because I'm supporting myself now. 

I'm 23, was not a student, and made over the minimum income to be counted as a dependent.

Based upon the information above since you are 23, not a student and your income was over $4,050 in 2017, enough to support yourself, you will answer the support question as yes you provided your own support for 2017. No one else can claim you. Please see the below for more information on what qualifies as a dependent on someones return:
