How can I view the estimated tax payments I entered for my 2020 return?

My state has notified me that their record of my estimated tax payments does not agree with what I filed on my return.  I'd like to check what I put down.  Worksheets are not included in the return pdf.

Hey mesquitebean,

I’m so sorry, the previous reply should have gone to another answerer.  Your method worked great for me.  There were a few minor variations in screens, but the basic technique did the trick.  Thank you so much for taking the time to help me out.  You know your Turbotax stuff for sure!!!

The tax return you submitted shows the estimated tax you claimed.

Otherwise the state would not complain about it being wrong.

Hi, Ben:

I can tell you how to get a larger PDF that should have the worksheets.  You do so by opening the return interview back up and going to the Print Center using the steps below.  Once you get the PDF, look for a worksheet called Tax Payments Worksheet.

NOTE:  When you open your return back up, do not make any changes in it since it's already been filed.  If you later have to amend the return, it has to start off exactly as it was when it was originally filed.

  • Log in, and at the Tax Home or in the section "Your Tax Returns & Documents" for 2020, look for a link "Add a State."
  • Click on "Add a State."  (you don't really add one.  That's just to open your return back up.)
  • Once the return interview is open, click in the left menu column on TAX TOOLS, then PRINT CENTER.
  • Then choose "Print, save, view this year's return."
  • The next screen should offer some options:  "Just my tax returns", or "include government worksheets (optional)", or "include government and TurboTax worksheets (optional.)"
  • The latter (include govt. and TurboTax worksheets) has the most pages and is the one most likely to have the Tax Payments Worksheet.

NOTE:  Remember all PDF tax documents and tax data files are very sensitive files, since they contain your personal ID info, financial data, and possibly bank account numbers, etc.  Be sure to store them safely and securely to guard against computer theft, hacking, etc.

I know that.  I just want to figure out where I made a mistake.  Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.

Hey, great news! You're welcome.

I'm glad the steps worked for you and that you found the worksheet you needed.  And good luck with the state tax agency.
