What happened? Was your 2022 return rejected, and you did not notice? If so, you will need to file it by mail now; e-filing is permanently closed for 2022 returns. If you e-filed it successfully, your account would say that it was "accepted." Or does it say "rejected," "printed," or "ready to mail?" If it says anything other than "accepted" then it was not filed successfully. TurboTax never mails returns for you, so if you wanted to file by mail, you had to print it and mail it out yourself.
You can still access the return by using the same account and user ID. Then print, sign and date it in ink, and mail it. If you are getting a refund or do not owe, there is no penalty for filing late. If you owe tax due, you will receive a bill from the IRS for the late filing penalty and interest owed after they receive the return with your payment for the amount due shown on line 37.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
