How can I find my number of exemptions in my 2016 1040EZ form if I am single and no one can claim me as a dependent?

This is for FAFSA. Instructions on FAFSA and TurboTax have not helped me locate my number of exemptions. Please help!

This answer is for tax year 2017 and prior years.

  • Your exemption is one (for yourself). Form 1040EZ Box 5, You should have a check mark in it.

For Tax Year 2018 and later, you will no longer use Form 1040-EZ, but instead use the Form 1040 or Form 1040-SR.
