How can I change my W-4 so I don’t owe again?

In December of last year I got my divorce and I had to do my taxes alone this year, I had to pay a lot for having in the w4 my married status and having declared that I am single in my taxes.
I have no dependents, one job and that's all and I paid almost 2000 usd.
How can I avoid a similar payment this year?

  1. Contact HR at your job to update your W-4 (many jobs nowadays allow you to do it yourself at their website).
  2. UPDATE your STEP 1 information.
  3. For STEP 2 fill out the form according to your filling status.
  4. You may need to make adjustments on STEP 4 part (c) since you are making adjustments to your W-4 in the middle of the Tax Year. To this end, the following post may prove very helpful:
