If your return has been filed & accepted, you cannot change banking information.  If your return has not been filed or was rejected, you can change banking information.  Go to File, go through the screens until it asks how you want your refund.

For the stimulus money, the IRS is only going by what is on your 2019 return (or 2018 return if you did not file a 2019 return), if you have direct deposit you will receive the stimulus money by direct deposit.  You will receive a check in the mail when there is no direct deposit information or the information is incorrect on your return you filed.

If your account is closed, you will automatically be switched to receiving a check in the mail.

@Blackcat1  You can use the IRS Get My Payment to enter your direct deposit information .

Use the "Get My Payment" application to:

  • Check your payment status
  • Confirm your payment type: direct deposit or check
  • Enter your bank account information for direct deposit if we don't have your direct deposit information and we haven't sent your payment yet
