How am I suppose to know how much to pay when I file an extension? I haven't done or am trying to correct my taxes so how would I know?

I made a grand more than previous year. Last year received 500 back. This year they want me to pay a grand. That makes no sense.  That's to much of a giant swing in other direction.  Nothing has changed exert the extra thousand I made

You do not have to pay anything on the extension.  Just leave box blank or enter a 0 whichever the form will accept.

"How am I suppose to know how much to pay"

IRS requires you to estimate your tax and pay as you go, and in full by April 15.

So claiming ignorance is not an accepted excuse.
