I use Home & Biz CD. I was talking to an acquaintance who mentioned the same H&B issue I had. Without doing any data entry, the program changed the amount of Fed & State refund/amount due.
In my case, I was just clicking through some pages to check something and the numbers changed. Fortunately, I had just saved the data so I closed the program without further saving. Re-opened and was OK with previously saved data. Had I not had just saved, this could have been a disaster of sorts.
Yes program updates can change it. Especially if you had any unemployment? There was a big change for that.
You can exclude up to 10,200 of unemployment unless your income is over 150,000. If you have filed, the IRS will recalculate your return for the new unemployment exemption for you. There is no need for taxpayers to file an amended return unless the calculations make the taxpayer newly eligible for additional federal credits and deductions not already included on the original tax return.

Don't think it's either of those. No unemployment. No recent updates as I had been working on taxes for quite a while after an update.
I reread your post. When you go back to review some sections it doesn't keep your answers from before so you need to go though the whole section and re answer everything again. Especially the 1099R section. You need to go to the very end of the section and hit Done.
