Hi my name is jack and I'm on OPT. I would like to file my taxes. sprintax said based on the information you provided, you are deemed a US resident for tax purposes

Sprintax pointed me to TurboTax  so how would an OPT person like me use TurboTax  to file my taxes?

To file with TurboTax, you need to qualify as a resident alien.

If you are an alien (not a U.S. citizen), you are considered a nonresident alien unless you meet one of the two tests: The Green Card Test and the Substantial Presence Test.

Please read this IRS publication for more information.

Thanks for your reply MinhT1. I understand that I'm an alien (not a U.S. citizen) but when I tried using Sprintax it said "Based on the information you provided, you are deemed a US resident for tax purposes, which means Sprintax software isn’t suitable for you. Sprintax facilitates non-resident tax return preparation only.

However, our partner TurboTax specializes in tax returns for US residents and you can click here to proceed.". I also chatted with Sprintax customer support and they said I would have to use TurboTax. I'm thinking it's because I have been in the US for more than 5 years
