Hi, I received a 1099-MISC for the payments received during maternity leave. The system asks for a business name, a business address, a EIN etc. What should I do?

It's weird to answer these questions like I was actually working another job, it makes no sense...

It appears the income is showing as self-employment income.  You need to delete the income from that category and then edit the 1099-Misc entries so it doesn't show as job income. Here are the steps.

  1. Click the "Wages & Income" tab at the top of page
  2. Scroll down to "Self-employment"
  3. "Edit/Add"
  4. "Delete" the "business" entry there
  5. "Continue"
  6. Scroll down to "Income from form 1099 Misc"
  7. "Edit/Add"
  8. Check/verify the Form 1099-Misc box information
  9. Enter description "Maternity Leave"
  10. Select "None of these apply"
  11. Select "Didn't involve work like my job"
  12. Select "I got it in 2020"
  13. Select "No it didn't involve an intent to earn money"
  14. Answer the follow on question
  15. "Done"
