Hi, I have imported my 1099 Comp. form, however, one of the numbers from the 1099 DIV form - 1a Total Ordinary Dividends - is more than what is listed on the 1099-DIV

"Dividends on 1099-DIV" under "Your income"
So, I am trying to figure out what dividend on form 1099-DIV was added to my 1a Total Ordinary Dividends. There's 3 possibilities: box 3: Nondividend Distributions, box 5: Section 199A Dividends, or box 11: Exempt-interest Dividends. Which of the 3 would be added to 1a Total Ordinary Dividends?

On the "Online" software's  Your Income page, only box 11 adds to box 1a to give the total shown there.

Solved:

From my broker issued Form 1099-DIV, Box 3 Nondividend Distributions was added to Box 1a Total Ordinary Dividends to calculate the value for "Dividends on 1099-DIV" on the Turbotax page "Your income."

I deleted and reimported my 1099 Comp from my broker and Turbo tax calculated the value to the cent, then rounded the number up to the value I see now under "Dividends on 1099-DIV."

More specifically, the calculation was:

Box 1a Total Ordinary Dividends, $811.20

+

Box 3 Nondividend Distributions,   $12.92

= $824.12 (this value appeared after I imported my 1099s, then Turbotax rounded it up to $825, which is the value that now appears under "Dividends on 1099-DIV" on the "Your income" page)

I reviewed the entire tax return with a Turbotax rep. and they confirmed that this is what occurred.  The final version of my Turbotax form submitted to the IRS shows only the $811.20, which matches with the figure on the 1099s submitted to the IRS by my broker.

Interesting....I put in some $$ to box 3 yesterday, and $26 into it this morning, and it had no effect on that number total showing on the Your Income page.   BUT, it was not an imported form.. it was  a manually-entered 1099-DIV with only box 1a and 11 with values in there before I added in the box 3 $$.

'

Not really critical as long as the proper $$ show up on the proper lines on the form 1040.

Good to know this difference for next time. I had about 45-50 ETFs from my 1099-B  that Turbotax automatically entered into my IRS forms. Saved a lot of time and hassle. I was not interested in manually entering it all myself (might as well just do it all by hand if that's the case) .

thanks for the input!

Where are the total dividends from section 199a box 5 in the turbo tax form?

The total of the entries for box 5 on your 1099-DIV statement will appear on form 8995 (Qualified Business Income Deduction Simplified Computation) on line 6.

If you are asking where you enter the box 5 number from your form 1099-DIV, you will see it when you click on the box below the box 1 entry in TurboTax that says My form has info in more than just these boxes.
