Hi I did some side work for a guy and he is sending 1099 to me and he is asking for my tax ID what do I need to give him or where do I get a tax ID?

I don’t officially have a business or an llc or anything like that but I do have a business name that they write the check to but gets deposited in my account does that make a difference at all?

If you don't have an employer identification number, you should use your social security number as your ID number. The contractor you worked for should give you a form W-9 to report your social security number in part 1.

OR

just give him your SSN.

That's how it works.
