Hello, I'm a sole proprietor who sometimes hires subcontractors. I'm taking on a new client and wondering whether I give them my SSN or my EIN for payment purposes?

For example, when I fill out a W9, should it be SSN or EIN?

If you have an EIN, it is preferable to use your EIN on form W-9. This avoids disclosing your SSN which may expose you to identity theft.
