Healthcare.gov stated I will not be getting a 1095-A form because I had a catastrophic plan. How do I answer yes to the less common types without that form?

When I answer "yes" to "did you have any of these less common types of insurance" I HAVE to enter a 1095-A form, but I will not receive one.

Say No to the "uncommon" question. Your situation doesn't apply to this question.

You are not entitled to a Premium Tax Credit when you are covered by a Marketplace catastrophic health plan. As such, you could not have received an Advanced Premium Tax Credit nor can you receive a Premium Tax Credit on your tax return. The sole purpose of the 1095-A is really the calculation of the Premium Tax Credit (Form 8962).

Indicate that you had Health Insurance all year, and then indicate "No" for the Obamacare question so you are not prompted to enter a 1095-A that you cannot and will not receive.

You can try to deduct any medical costs under:

  • Federal Taxes
  • Deductions and Credits
  • Medical - Medical Expenses
