Has anyone received a message saying they return was wrong and they are getting $2,200 less back on federal return?

If your refund is exactly $2,200 less, it is very likely that the IRS adjusted your refund to decrease or eliminate your Recovery Rebate Credit (shown on Line 30 of your 1040). The $2,200 would equal 2 payments for stimulus payment 1 ($600 x 2) and 2 payments for stimulus payment 2 ($500 x 2).

If you did not report the stimulus payments received and then received the Recovery Rebate Credit on your tax return, then the IRS will adjust your refund to reflect the stimulus payments you actually received and were qualified for.

Per the IRS, If you entered an amount on line 30 but made a mistake in calculating the amount, the IRS will calculate the correct amount of the Recovery Rebate Credit, make the correction to your tax return and continue processing your return. If a correction is needed, there may be a slight delay in processing your return and the IRS will send you a notice explaining any change made.

So how much is on line 30?  2200 Could be for 2 Dependents

500x2 for the first Stimulus payment and

600x2 for the second one

How much did you actually get in 2020 and 2021 for the Stimulus payments?  Maybe you didn't enter the right amounts you already got or entered them in the wrong boxes.  So it tried to give it to you again.
