H1B visa holders do not qualify for a no of benefits, one is stimulus payments. Never received any payment but when entered as $0 received, my payment due changed to a big refund. Doubting if this is correct and will it put me under public chargeability violation?
Actually, you DO qualify.
H1B Holders and Resident Aliens to Receive Stimulus Check - OnlineVisas
Appreciate the prompt reply. In the link you shared, one of the eligibility criteria states both parents should have SSN. My wife is on H4 visa and has an ITIN number. As per TT I still qualify giving me a hefty return! I am worried if this can impact my GC application under public chargeability. Is Turbotax right? Please help.
real the statement closely, it says 'THE parent'. It would have been better to word it 'A parent'.
when the first stimulus was approved by Congress, unless both parents had SS#, there was no stimulus paid.
but that changed for the 2nd stimulus, retroactive to the 1st stimulus. As long as one parent had SS#, then that parent and the children with SS# were eligible for the stimulus; the parent with the ITIN remained ineligible.
So it would not surprise me if you received both stimulus payments for you and both for your children; you wife is ineligible.
also that link says it doesn't impact your GC.
