Gross income for 2021 was 24,101.00. This year I grossed under 1,000.00 taking care of my wife. I will be receiving a w2 for 2022. I should still file a return, correct?

My wife is a disabled veteran and does not need to file.

@tomtbone1965 - if your 2022 income is less than $25,900 (assumes both are under 65 years old) there is no filing requirement.  However, if you had withholdings on that W-2 (or any other form), then the only way to get the money back is to file.

if you are under 65, you will be eligible for EIC so it might still be worth filing.

State rules may vary,

I highly recommend you use one of the IRS FREE FILE  options to compute the return and see if you are eligible for any credits even if you are not required to file.

Use this IRS site  to file for free:

Even though your wife has no income you still should file a Joint return if you need to file.  Does she get Social Security?  You have to report the SS if you file a return.  Your total income for this year will only be 1,000?  The year isn't over  yet.
