You may be getting this code fi you have QBI loss carryforward entries from 2020.  There is a known issue that will be corrected with a release on 04//08/2022.

Same issue! I'm on hold now with  Intuit/Turbo Tax to figure out the issue. Call [phone number removed]

Go delete the QBI worksheet and that fixes the issue.

Which QBI worksheet exactly

I just filed so I can't see it but on the left side, go to all of your worksheets and it says something about QBI and I only had one. Intuit had me delete it and then the error message went away.

Call Intuit if you need help at [phone number removed]. They had to transfer me to 2nd level support as this is  new error code.

Heather100 - thank you so much!  I was able to google the reference code and found your solution.  My client had 7 QBI entries for different items, but I just deleted to Worksheet encompassing all of the items and everything went smoothly from there.

Thanks again for your solution!

Is it right thing to do - deleting the QBI work sheet ? I also got the same error code. I removed the QBI worksheet and I am ready to file. I had W2 + Sole proprietorship 1099 (Misc + NEC) income. Both 1099 Misc and NEC are for same business. After few questions, turbotax software indicated that I qualify for QBI.

If you qualify for the QBI deduction, you should not delete the worksheet as that will eliminate your deduction.  You likely just need to revisit the QBI income questions in the interview process to clarify your inputs so TurboTax can accurately calculate the deduction.

To review the QBI entries in TurboTax Online you can follow these steps:

  1. Open or continue your return in TurboTax
  2. Search for self employed income (use this exact phrase, don't add a hyphen) and select the Jump to link at the top of the search results
  3. Click Edit next to the line of work you need to change
  4. On the Here's your XXX info screen scroll down to the Business Summary section and click Details for Qualified Business Income
  5. Proceed through the interview

Thank you for sharing your expertise. Because I had deleted the QBI worksheet form. I cleared all the forms, and reworked as fresh start for filling from beginning. I completed everything but this time, I did not get any question on QBI worksheet related queries

Hi - has anyone had this issue this year? I am getting the error code and hoping someone knows how to fix it on the online version of turbotax. Thanks!

If the QBI calculations could not be completed, would you clarify, what kind of income do you have?

It's likely that you have worksheets that have identical business names e.g. "Insurance Agent". So the error would state " Qualified Business Income Component wkst (Insurance Agent): Your calculations could not be completed. Reference code : 8-312-029" Deleting one worksheet will resolve the issue. It will automatically rename the other form with a generic name. This should resolve the issue and allow you to efile.

To delete one of the worksheets, choose the steps for your version of TurboTax:

If you are using the Desktop version of our software (CD/Download):

  1. Click on Forms in the upper right of your screen
  2. Find the relevant form on the left hand side of your screen in the Forms in My Return list
  3. Click on the form (note, there may be one for both taxpayer and spouse if married filing jointly)
  4. Click Delete Form button at the bottom of the screen
  5. Click Yes to confirm you want to delete

If you are using TurboTax Online:

  1. Login to TurboTax and click on Continue your return to get into the prep section
  2. Click on My Account at the top of your screen
  3. Click on Tools
  4. In the list at the bottom, click on Delete a form
  5. Click Delete next to the relevant form
  6. Click Delete Selected Form to confirm deletion
