German citizen, worked in TX from 01-03 '24, had W2 income. Then relocated to Germany permanently. Filing taxes for the rest of the year in Germany. How to file in US?

I am a german citizen. I lived and worked in texas, US from January to March 2024 and received a w2 income statement. I relocated to germany and worked there from april to december of 2024 and was not a resident in the us anymore. I am filing taxes for my german income in 2024 in germany. Do I have to disclose my german income on my american taxes?

There's a section where it will ask you if you had income earned outside of the US.  You'd have to enter that amount.  I believe it's used to determine your tax bracket in the US.  You are exempt if you meet certain criteria - ie the length of time you lived here versus in Germany that year.   There's also a section that asks if you resided in the state the entire year - or if you moved out of the state or country.  It will walk you through each step and scenario.

It depends on your status:

If you are a resident alien, you must report all interest, dividends, wages, or other compensation for services, income from rental property or royalties, and other types of income on your U.S. tax return. You must report these amounts whether from sources within or outside the United States. Resident aliens file Form 1040 like U.S. citizens.

Nonresident aliens file Form 1040-NR. A nonresident alien is usually subject to U.S. income tax only on U.S. source income.
